What Are Dental Implants?
Implants are screw-shaped titanium posts that we surgically place into the jawbone. They act like natural tooth roots, providing a stable and durable foundation for one, some, or all of your teeth, restoring your healthy, functional smile. Dental implants are the standard of care, providing results that most closely mimic nature’s design.
At Birk Family Dentistry, we offer a range of dental implant restoration options, including the following:
- Single-Tooth Implants: If you’re missing one of your teeth due to deep decay, infection, or trauma, Dr. Birk may recommend a single-tooth implant. Your restoration consists of a dental implant with an aesthetic dental crown attached, delivering a natural-looking and functional smile.
- Implant-Supported Bridges: If you’re missing two or more neighboring teeth, an implant-supported bridge may be ideal for you. We’ll place implants on either side of the gap to support your restoration, bridging the gap in your smile and delivering exceptional stability, function, and durability.
- Overdentures: Also known as implant-supported dentures, overdentures are ideal for those missing most or all of their teeth. These removable restorations are supported by several implants placed in the jaw, providing a secure and stable alternative to traditional dentures.
- All-on-X: This innovative implant technique replaces an entire arch of teeth with as few as four implants placed strategically in the jawbone. All-on-Xs offer a superior tooth replacement solution that mimics the function and appearance of natural teeth, restoring your healthy, functional smile.
The best implant restoration option for you will depend on several factors, including the number of missing teeth, your overall oral health, the quality and density of your jawbone, and your preferences. If you have bone loss in the area, Dr. Birk may recommend a bone grafting procedure to provide the needed support for your implant.
What Can You Expect?
At Birk Family Dentistry, we use the latest technology to enhance your treatment outcomes. We start by capturing 3D images of your teeth and oral structures with our CBCT unit, which provides precise information about critical structures like your tooth roots, bone quality and density, tooth roots, nerve pathways, sinuses, and overall oral anatomy. This information helps us create custom surgical guides, which are templates that ensure precise implant placement.
After implant placement, healing will begin. The implant will fuse to the bone in a process known as osseointegration, which can take a few months. Depending on your specific procedure, we may first need to place a connector known as an abutment before attaching your final restoration. Once in place, your new replacement teeth will look, feel, and function like natural, healthy teeth.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
- They Look Natural: Dental implants are made to look like the surrounding teeth, enhancing the appearance of your smile.
- They Are Stable: Unlike dentures, dental implant restorations are securely anchored to your jawbone, providing unmatched stability and security.
- They Restore Function: Your new implants will restore your ability to eat all the foods you love without pain or worry, speak clearly, and smile with confidence.
- They Prevent Bone Loss: Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants act like natural tooth roots, stimulating the jawbone and preventing the bone loss that usually occurs after tooth loss.
- They Support Your Facial Structure: Restoring missing teeth helps support your facial structure and muscles, restoring your youthful contours.
- They Improve Your Oral Health: By stabilizing your adjacent teeth and preventing them from shifting, dental implants help maintain your proper bite alignment, enhancing your oral health.
- They Have a High Success Rate: Dental implants have a proven track record of success, with studies showing that most implants last for many years with proper care and maintenance.
